Italian Adventure; Venice

Hello friends!
I had the time of my life in Italy and I am going to tell you a little about the things we did!
We flew into Venice on Thursday morning and checked into our Hostel. This was my first experience with Hostels, and I surprisingly liked it! Our first hostel was called A Venice Fish and it had a very comfortable atmosphere. Every night the hostel cooked us dinner and then everyone who stayed in the hostel would hang out then head out. Venice didn't have very much of a night life so we didn't stay out too late. I think my favorite part about this hostel was getting to know so many people. We met two Australian brothers who were backpacking through Europe, one woman from Hong Kong who was traveling Italy, an American woman who is teaching in Germany for two years and was traveling Italy for a week, and finally there was a group of Notre Dame boys who are studying in London this semester. (Of course there were ND boys... they're everywhere!)

Venice is an island in Northern Italy. The coolest thing about Venice is that the main way of transportation is through their canals. There are no cars in Venice because there are no streets wide enough. There are many bridges and you could walk from one side of the island to the other in about an hour. For the whole time we were in Venice, we took out the map once and that was to get us to the hostel. We just wandered and got lost. Normally, getting lost isn't a good thing but traveling is about getting lost and finding new places. The only problem about this is that sometimes you see a really cool building but you have no idea what it is or the basic information about it. But I just loved walking around and soaking in all the new culture.

We were talking to one of the guys that worked at our hostel on things to do and he told us we should go the Piazza San Marco. It is one of the biggest plazas in all of Venice. It also holds the beautiful St. Mark's Basilica. The church was absolutely gorgeous!

Gold was everywhere!

Once we were done at San Marco, we stopped to have some authentic Italian pizza. There are pizzeria restaurants EVERYWHERE in Italy and you cannot go wrong with any of them. For me personally, this pizza was the best. I was very boring and typically stuck with the original Margarita!

The last thing we did as a group was take a gondola ride through the canals of Venice! I have seen so many pictures and been told that gondola rides are the most romantic things to do in Italy and I was so excited I got to do it with some of my best friends!

 Next stop,  Florence!
