This past weekend was our second to last trip with Roberta and the Saint Mary's girls as a whole. We left on Friday to go to Killarney for a long weekend! The bus ride took a little bit longer than we thought which was a bummer but we were excited to see what the weekend would bring us!
The weekend started early Saturday morning in Killarney National Park! The first thing we saw was The Ross Castle. There are no tours of the castle so we had a little bit of time to look around and take some pictures!
Once walking around the castle and having our casual photo shoots, we jumped on a boat and traveled through Lough Leane (the lower lake), Muckross Lake (the middle lake), and the Upper Lake.
The lakes are all interconnected and make up most of the park's area. The path that we took was 14 km which equals about 8.5 miles. The ride took us about 45 minutes to get through the three lakes.
There was actually a fishing competition on the lakes on the same day were there so the main lake was a little crowded! (Sounds like Evan's type of venue!)
Once we got off the boats, we were shocked to find out that we were going to be getting a horse drawn carriage ride up one of the mountains to see the Gap of Dunloe! The view we had going up the narrow pathway was the image I have had of Ireland ever since I got accepted to the program here. The hills were so beautiful and never ending. Our carriage ride was surprisingly quiet and that's because we were simply in awe of what we were seeing.
Shout out to our horse, Sam!
So green and beautiful!
This is the view of the gap from the highest point!
We got off the horses, had a cup of coffee and headed towards Lady's View which had another great view of the Upper Lake!
A few weeks ago, we went to Glendalough where we were told that was a beautiful waterfall. Yes, the waterfall was beautiful but it was quite small. Roberta promised that we would see a true waterfall in Killarney and that's exactly what happened! The waterfall was gorgeous and I could sit there for hours and just stare at the beauty.
Simply beautiful!
It was quite a memorable weekend in Killarney with my Saint Mary's girls! I know I have said this many times but I am so blessed to be here in Ireland with these group of girls. All the talking for hours, tubs of ice cream, and Romantic Comidies we've watched, these girls have become my sisters and I cannot thank them enough for experiencing this with me!
Nothing like a Smick cuddle!
Also, shout out to my family and friends who are keeping up with my blog and continue to live vicariously through my adventure! I was talking to my mom and she has told me all about the love and support you guys have given me over the past month! Thank you for your prayers and love as I continue on my Irish adventure. It's amazing how loved you can feel even though you are 2,000 miles away! So thank you, thank you, thank you!
Until next time!
Sláinte!
Libby
