Today we had a lot of free time from our busy shcedule of orientation so Molly (another smick - for those of you who dont know, Saint Mary's girls are called smick chicks!)
and I decided to act like total tourists and walk around campus and town a little bit. NUI Maynooth is split into two different campus, North Campus and South campus. My apartment and most of the academic buildings are on North Campus but you have to walk across the street to get to South Campus which has St. Patrick's Seminary, the church, St. Mary's square and some more classrooms. This campus is beautiful and so old. It's weird to say that but things are ancient compared to the things in America.
This is the entrance of South Campus from North Campus. On the right is the very modern library that was updated in December of last year!
This is St. Patrick's College Chapel. It was closed so we didn't get to go in. I've been told that it is beautiful inside and its a must to go in for mass.
Part of South Campus, my back is to St. Patrick's House (pics are below of St. Patrick's House)
This is the entry way of St. Patrick's House, looks like a castle doesn't it?!
This is the most iconic view of NUI Maynooth. No, this picture is not from Google images. And trust me, this is more beautiful in person!
Ya know, just getting my tourist on!
And we actually had some blue skys today! It was such a beautiful day. I still cannot get over the beauty of this campus.
Just a different view of South Campus!
Now we are headed into downtown Maynooth. This is Dublin Street which is one of the main drag of town. Maynooth is your typical Irish town with pubs and shopping on the side.
Straight ahead is The Roost which is one of the most popular pubs in Maynooth. I haven't been there but I've been told it's the place to be!
This is the street that leads you into Maynooth campus. Dunnes (mall and shopping cennter) is straight ahead along with the St. Mary's Boys High School.
I hope you all liked the virtual tour of Maynooth! This is my school and campus for the next three months and today just made me realize how luck I am to be here. The homesickness has been a little present here but I when I'm down, a healthy DMC (deep meaningful conversation - Irish slang) with one of the other smicks always helps.
Sláinte!
Libby
